Tim always remembered the good times he had with his granddad going train spotting. His grandad and more particularly his grandmother, always knew how to make the simplest of things fun. So, for this reason his granny would never allow Tim and his granddad to go out for an afternoon of train spotting without a well stocked picnic. To this day if Tim closed his eyes he could remember the taste of his granny’s delicious fruit cake, her simple but delicious ham sandwiches on his favourite crusty bread from the local bakery and the refreshing hot sweet tea that poured from the flask his granny had prepared and packed into the rucksack. Afternoons spent with his granddad to spot the local trains were among some of Tims favourite childhood memories. They would be careful to find a great picnic spot where they would have an excellent view of the railway bridge from the top of the hill and they would be able to almost hear the train before they would see it. Tim’s grandad showed him how to use the pair of binoculars very well and Tim used to love being able to focus in on the train as it sped by. Sometimes the train would be forced to stop at the junction where the railway met the road. When this happened, Tim used to love using the binoculars to get a closer look at the train in all its glory and his favourite thing was to see if he could spot the driver. Tim dreamed that one day he would be a train driver and he couldn’t think of a job that he’d be prouder to do in all the world.
